Evil STORM…

No, this isn’t about ARASHI or the fangirling trends. We’re talking about the evil version of a storm here.

CNN.com News Article

Growing up in the Philippines, starting from June until around this month (maybe longer), it’s always typhoon season. And when there’s typhoon season, there’s always floods. I thought I’ve seen the worst when I was little— until today. I know it’s late receiving news here on this side of the world but my entire family and myself are very worried right now. Phone calls are no good because there’s no electricity over there, so we tried emails and text messages. So far, no answers.

My Girl or Samurai Seventeen… er, High School?

QUICK EDIT
Samurai Seventeen
has recently changed to the new title, Samurai High School. Check out the NTV official site (well, that is if you know basic Japanese…) for the update.

(Personally, I prefer the “seventeen” than “high school”… it sounds a lot cooler… maybe some Japanese people wouldn’t understand what the “seventeen” means I guess, so they decided to change it to something everyone can actually understand. *sigh*)

Aside from being my birthday (and my brother’s birthday too), October is a huge month for the a huge lineup of new fall season dramas in Japan. That month is just four weeks ahead and it is one of the anticipated months for every J-drama fan out there (and probably just prime time TV in general). So yay for the birthday, yay for fall season J-dramas (and NCIS and the upcoming NCIS: Los Angeles spinoff season), yay for…

So, moving on. Two particular dramas that I really look forward to watching. That would be (as the entry title says) My Girl and Samurai Seventeen High School. Why? Because I’m a story-wise nerd geek and a J-drama dweeb. Now that we got that out of the way, here are my comments on why I particularly picked those two as the dramas that I look for (aside from being those are the only two dramas that I know of that begins in October. ).

ABDC S4: Afroborike vs. We Are Heroes

This is actually the first time I’m going to write about one of my favorite TV shows (rather one of the very few TV shows I actually watch) and of course, my other currently active fandom. J-entertainment will have to take the back seat for now.

So, for the first time since the debut of MTV’s Randy Jackson’s AMERICA’S BEST DANCE CREW, the (predominantly-Asian) B-Boy Rule ended today when the Massive Monkeys were eliminated from the competition. For the first time in ABDC’s history that the title will go to female dancers, whether if it’s Caribe-Latin style dancers Afroborike or the pop & lock tough girls We Are Heroes who may be bestowed the title. Not just that, it’s also the first time that a non-B-Boy (or B-Girl… remember Beat Freaks!) crew who is at the final two as well.

May Pulis sa Ilalim ng…

Translation: There’s Police Underneath the…

For some particular reason, that “traditional” Filipino folk song appeared in my mind right as I’m preparing to write about what I am about to write. And if you’re wondering, yes, it does involve the police. This particular incident also isn’t a laughing matter either because it’s one of those situations where someone you are familiar with (not necessarily close with) would ever get in to such a troubling situation such as this.

Last night (since it’s almost 3 am here) we had a dinner party to celebrate my mother’s birthday, even if it already took place on 9/16th. Usual people, family friends, relatives, friends with their significant others, little kids here and there, just a typical, simple, run-of-the-mill Filipino/Asian gathering. Plenty of good food, good drinks, good movies, good games, and good talks regarding what’s going on in life. When time came, the guests headed back home with the exception of one uncle and aunt, who decided to stay a bit longer for more talks (they live in the same town, so it’s not a problem for them to go home late).

Rockin’ 50th @ Home!

Shifting gears a little bit here. In other words, steering away from the bustling JE/J-Idol fandom to my other fandom— ABDC! (and some other stuff too)

Last night, I went to my hometown’s 50th Anniversary Celebration Concert with fireworks display at the end to continue on commemorating my town’s 50th anniversary since its foundation in 1959. I’ve gone through (and volunteered on a few) about three or four events already which included the annual Asian American Heritage Month, the 50th Anniversary Parade, and of course, this particular outdoors (yup, outdoors) concert that not only features some known performers from all around California (though Sage directly came from Hawaii to the SF Bay Area to spread their music in the mainland!), but it also featured some key speakers (the politicians) and some important people known around the country (if not the world obviously) who lived here in Union City and shared their experiences growing up in this little community and how this town progressed to an actual recognized suburb right smack somewhere in the Silicon Valley.

[TECHIE BREAK] Website Project Gig

I got a call from my aunt about a website project for her family’s charitable organization that they have been supporting for quite awhile earlier today. We’ve discussed about this for awhile now but never really had the time to actually move forward with it. It looks like I’ll have to put my fan hobby stuff on hold, which would cause some delays on my current hobby projects. FSM and AMNOS may have to delay a bit from its projected deadline (not that FSM has a projected deadline in the first place) and I may be blogging a little less. I have to get back to real life in order to get this done.

My aunt wanted to get started with the site so I’ll have to halt a few things. In addition, I need to seriously revamp my entire markup and look of my portfolio as it has not been touched for over a year now so I can add this new project in to my portfolio/resume/CV. I also need to update my resume as well in order to reflect this new project. There’s a couple of things that I also need to do but for now I’ll have to get to work.

Other than that (and some real-life mishaps and happenings), nothing much new to report. That doesn’t mean I’m not going to write about the current web trends in fandoms in general (okay, just J-idol/dramas fandom, mostly) in this blog. That’s my current niche at the moment and I’m not backing out on that one. That also doesn’t mean that I’m going to start writing heavily about the mishaps and happenings of my real life because, as mentioned, they are private. I’d rather entertain readers and enthusiasts than getting stalked by stalkers with hate in their minds.

That’s all. Off to working now!

What do you know? For the first time, not a long-ass “novel-length” entry.
