GOBBLE-dygook Hodgepodge
First up to the peeps of the U.S. of A, I want to wish all of you a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Second, to the peeps of the AMNOS tribe, let’s all greet the O a (belated) Happy 29th Birthday!
Third, Monday is the last day of NaNoWriMo! Though I already won the challenge, my story is not yet finished! I hoped to finish everything by that day so I can finally rest and move on.
Fourth, TFL approved my application for the Samurai High School Fanlisting! Once after my novel is done I am seriously gonna get down and dirty in building this site. I may make it in to a mini-informational site, so watch out! The more I’m seeing this series episode by episode, the more I feel like I’m getting PWNED. It’s not because of the SURF DUDE or the Senorito, but the overall storyline is really well worth watching. I love the characters— all of them— including the self-centered cop and the bitchy principal.
Fifth, the menu for our Thanksgiving Dinner would be the gobble-gobble bird, stuffing, mashed potatoes, daing na bangus, pancit, lumpia, sinigang, pinakbet, rice, and pumpkin pie and more various Filipino desserts for dessert. Now that’s what I call Filipino-fusion style Thanksgiving!
Sixth, the folks are here. Time for me to sign off.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING! BE THANKFUL FOR WHAT YOU’VE GOT and not moan in sadness for what you don’t have.
Fan-Subbed Works (Part 1)
PRECAUTION NOTE:
A friend suggested to me that I should write some kind of a pre-warning note before I start writing one of my (Male) J-Idol Fangirlism series entries for the sake of the ones who take fangirlism seriously and of course, for the sensitive types. I thought it was a stupid idea to write such notice but after being attacked by the said individuals thinking everything I write in my blog is aiming specifically towards them, I reconsidered putting one up before the actual entry. Sure, these entries may direct towards fangirls in general, but these people have to keep in mind that they are not the only fangirls of a particular fandom that exist in this world. Sadly (or rather somehow), they think the opposite. Oh well.
This particular entry (and yes, it’s another novel-length entry, so if you hate long blog entries, best leave now
) is another request from one of the users who stopped by my blog. It’s a pretty good subject too, to be honest, though I did mention a bit of this at my past entries. This particular entry will aim directly towards the said subject on the title.
In addition to being novel-length, this may even become in to a mini-series of the said subject. There is actually a lot to cover regarding fansubbing that all users and fans should be aware of. I don’t want to bore all you readers by putting all the information and such in one entry, so I’ll make it easier and break it down for you all. Sound fair?
Going back to the paragraph before the previous. In other words, if you come here and read this entry and then attack me and claim that you’re not interested in reading this entire entry (but you read it anyway, what the hell…), then seriously do yourself a favor and click the X button on the top right corner or next to your browser tab and get over yourself.
One of the benefits of being in a fandom of something coming from a foreign country online is being able to gain access to various sources presented by fellow fans to fellow fans. One of the most common sources that us fans are fortunate to gain access and enjoy more of our fandom is the ability to download and watch video clips of TV shows, drama series, movies, interviews, and even at times audio clips from radio shows that do not exist in our local TV sets or even at our local stores. Best of all, for a fan of something that exists outside of your own country, the biggest blessing that we are able to have is if these particular media clips have subtitles in them (most especially if they are subtitled in English, since most people around the world understand or have a good grasp of English in general).
My Girl or Samurai Seventeen… er, High School?
QUICK EDIT
Samurai Seventeen has recently changed to the new title, Samurai High School. Check out the NTV official site (well, that is if you know basic Japanese…) for the update.(Personally, I prefer the “seventeen” than “high school”… it sounds a lot cooler… maybe some Japanese people wouldn’t understand what the “seventeen” means I guess, so they decided to change it to something everyone can actually understand. *sigh*)
Aside from being my birthday (and my brother’s birthday too), October is a huge month for the a huge lineup of new fall season dramas in Japan. That month is just four weeks ahead and it is one of the anticipated months for every J-drama fan out there (and probably just prime time TV in general). So yay for the birthday, yay for fall season J-dramas (and NCIS and the upcoming NCIS: Los Angeles spinoff season), yay for…
So, moving on. Two particular dramas that I really look forward to watching. That would be (as the entry title says) My Girl and Samurai Seventeen High School. Why? Because I’m a story-wise nerd geek and a J-drama dweeb. Now that we got that out of the way, here are my comments on why I particularly picked those two as the dramas that I look for (aside from being those are the only two dramas that I know of that begins in October.
).
JE Groups & The 24-Hour TV
Yeah, yeah. Another long-ass “novel-length” entry. Go figure.
But man, I seriously gotta love new fan girls— especially the ones who are seriously biased about their favorite group that they don’t even bother doing some research or ask around fellow JE (yes, I said JE, not just Arashi) fans about the history of their favorite group with the inspiring every-summer event known as the 24-Hour TV.
Now, before some of you start getting oversensitive and gang up on me for “acting oh-so-high and mighty” and picking on the newer fans again, I’ll repeat again like the last time. This has nothing to do with you, but if you keep on believing that I’m targeting you specifically no matter how many times must I re-explain and repeat myself over and over again about my intentions on my writings, then man, you must be very self-absorbed to even think of that, wouldn’t you say? But I do encourage you to read on because I think all fans should also be aware of this, not just Arashi, but all JE fans.
The “Freeter” Arashi Fan
My last attempt in to getting back in Arashi fandom is to rebuild AMNOS.net and maintain it as much as I can. As of recent, I renewed the domain for two years (well, let’s give it two years), so the domain is active again. I just need some kind of content to put in there to let them know of its eventual return. Then again, will it actually return?
Ever since I returned… or rather… trying to fit in to the Arashi fandom, I realized to myself that it’s pretty much impossible now. Heard of the saying of “Once you become something (or someone), you’ll always be that something (or someone.”? Well, in the case of Arashi fandom (and probably any J-idol fandom in general), once you become an Arashi fan and then go on a long-period hiatus due to whatever reason (regardless if it was a very important reason or you just simply lost interest), you can never come back again.
What can I say? I realized that I’m a very different fan from most of the (global) fans, which is probably why it’s difficult for me to re-adjust myself to the rest of the fandom. I don’t spazz around with other fans or roleplay pretending that I’m with my favorite Arashi member, I don’t go kyaa! or squee! or honto kawaaaiiii da~!! whenever I see something cool or adorable with Arashi (or any other J-idol for that matter), I don’t declare and bitch at other fan girls telling them that I’m (insert male J-idol’s name here)’s wife or something (get a grip, people!), I don’t write most of my entries dedicated to my eternal fangirlism towards Arashi… I just don’t do stuff that most Arashi fans of today do. And because of these differences, should that limit me in to “fitting in” with the general Arashi fandom? Many of you would probably say that it shouldn’t, but then again I know that many of you have never been in my shoes before (as in a long-time fan who goes on hiatus for a year or so and return back to fandom again), so save the pep talk…
I know this is such a pathetic entry, but I can’t help feeling sad about it. So many of my friends from the past are no longer around, and those who I reunited with seem to be somewhat on the same shoes as I am, only that they’re more of avoiding the mass fandom communities rather than trying to be in it. It’s not that it’s a bad thing, but I always thought that fandom shouldn’t have any requirements just so fellow fans would acknowledge you. Nowadays, it seems that in order for other fans to acknowledge you that you have to show them something that would seriously give you attention… or rather, give them something in exchange for attention and close access. I don’t know what it is with some fans’ behavior nowadays. It’s like they blatantly act like obsessive stalkers for the sake of everyone else around them. It’s like a person doing something they did not want to do just because everyone does it.
So now, where do I stand? Am I already at the freeter stage of fandom? Will I ever steer clear of communities and forums as of this date?
Only way to find out, I guess… stay longer and if there’s no success, then move on to the next stage.
Sweet September 2009
For those who live in the Western Hemisphere as well as Japan and Korea, all the kids head back to school (though some even go back to school at late August?).
But for some of us, I look forward to a Sweet September. It marks the the end of summer, literally, and in to the cooler, slightly gloomier season. It also marks somewhat a beginning for us as well. For one thing, my mother’s birthday is coming up on the 16th. Though it’s not that important to many of you, any person’s birthday regardless whether you know that person or not personally is still an important event. It just marks another year of that person living to this very earth.
Welcome to ADRIATASTIC!, a writing station where you'll probably do nothing but to read a lot of stuff and occasionally write something in response. This blog is proudly being administered, designed, and owned by some two-bit designer, wanna-be web developer, amateur writer, cat lover, and tea adventurer named Adrimarie. [

Well, regarding Lent, it’s just one of the things that I decided to write about. I wouldn’t...
I think I should post something about Lent, too. It IS an important season in the country… BTW, I think...
interesting… Now I remember that one of my initial purposes in having a blog was to practice my grammar...
Yup. Sei Shonagon lived from around 930 BC till her deat in the early 1100s, so I would probably estimate...
That’s quite interesting. It’s kinda neat to think someone “blogged” way back then....
