February 14th, 2010 Hodgepodge

Three things going on in that particular day. Best part of it all, it’s a three-day weekend for me. Yay President’s Day! Sure, most of you peeps are probably groan on this particular day due to a certain celebration that majority of the people in the world somewhat abhor or simply don’t really care about, but hey, it’s also a brand-new year for many people at many parts of the world, so don’t fret! February 14th still rocks! :D

Industrial Ecology & Biomimicry Hodgepodge

As I delve deeper in to the wonders of social and environmental sustainability, thanks to the high influences of my co-workers in our department, another aspect of environmental sustainability actually got my attention. That, of course, is industrial ecology and biomimicry.

What the heck are those two things. Well, it’s a concept (or concepts) in which we create our own new systems by copying or being inspired by the natural processes of living creatures in the world around us. Since the human race throughout history just don’t really know (or don’t really care) how on earth we use the resources provided to us by mother nature herself. As of this moment, slowly and gradually, the earth is dying because of… well… us.

The Firsts of 2010 Hodgepodge

  1. Woke up in high noon.
  2. Watched a movie with family – Sherlock Holmes.
  3. Baked Puto (Filipino fluffy white pastry) using Bisquick all-purpose baking mix instead of rice flour.
  4. Finished The Lost Symbol in 3 days instead of my usual 2 weeks of reading.
  5. Came up with a new plot for an original fiction project. FSM will have to be put on hold. I remind myself not to make a “grand” website ever again if I’m not even going to dedicate myself to maintain.
  6. Anticipated upcoming winter season J-dramas and here they are as follows:
    • Bloody Monday (Season) 2
    • The Wallflower (Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge)
    • Left-Eyed Detective (Hidarime Tantei Eye)
    • Shinsengumi PEACE MAKER
  7. Wrote this blog entry, though it’s already the 2nd day of 2010.

Because this is a hodgepodge entry, there’s nothing much “exciting” that you can see in this entry. One of my personal resolutions is to write more in this blog, and another thing, they don’t have to be novel-length entries. Would I change much of my ways? Probably not. But I will change some of my ways for the better, not for the worse.

Am I going to stop writing about (J-idol) fangirls and their everyday practices whether if they’re just general commentary or am I poking fun of them? Probably not.

Christmas & End of the Year Hodgepodge

First and foremost, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. If you’re one of those extremely politically correctness-conscious people, I’ll do you all a favor. Happy Hoildays (even many of my non-Christians or non-Christmas-celebrating friends think the greeting is just ridiculous).

Next, got a few things to babble about as we close this year— finally. Personally I look forward to leaving 2009 behind as I would define this year as the worst year I’ve ever had in my life. Few reasons why:

  • Unemployment for the first half of the year.
  • Financial problems due to said statement before.
  • Seems I made more enemies than friends this year.
  • Lack of creativity with everything due to the said statements above.
  • Current events and inspirational and the passing of legendary and inspirational individuals that influenced the world altogether if not the every single individual.
  • … life in the 2000s decade sucked? As one issue of Time had the headline: Decade from Hell.

Mid-November Hodgepodge

It’s been a long while since I’ve written in here. What can I say. NaNoWriMo owns me. :P

This is just a quickie entry just to let you all know that hey— I’m still alive. :D

  • As of today, I am close to 39,000 Word Count. I may even get up to 40,000 tonight too, but we’ll see how inspired or tired I am before it gets to midnight.
  • The boxing match between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto was definitely the best match I’ve ever watched since I began watching PPV boxing with the PACMAN versus all other formidable fighters. Though it’s no longer news that the PACMAN has made history by receiving his 7th title and still retaining his pound-for-pound champion legacy, this was probably the first time that a Pacquiao match actually went all the way to the final round. The PACMAN still had his speed and his clever defenses, while Cotto had true heart. He requested to go all the way, even if his side wanted him to stop and end the fight. There were no trash talks between the two fighters or any one of their people against each other. Nothing but a good, solid, clean, and fair fight. No nonsense whatsover. Cotto was indeed a very worthy opponent and I also praise him along with the winner. Congratulations to the both of you.
  • Gift cards for EVERYONE this Christmas!
Because I am currently the poorest in my family. Blame this damn economy and my unemployment for practically more than half of this year. 2009 SUCKED big time. My one and only Christmas wish is for all my loved ones to give me money instead of tangible things like clothes or something.
  • Unknown Plans for Thanksgiving
Up to now we still don’t know who’s going to hold the Thanksgiving Dinner or not. Parents don’t wanna be hosts for Thanksgiving again. We should go out of town or something. Hmm…
  • Working hard on sites!
I’ll have to seriously work hard… work hard… and really clean up my portfolio site. I’ve been getting spam entries from my old contact form over there.
  • Samurai High School PWNS!
Due to my J-pop/idols hiatus, the only fall drama I’m able to watch during my spare time and get current with it is none other than Samurai High School. Really hilarious series. I need to laugh for the fall and winter season because laughs and smiles can make hearts warmer on a cold and frigid season. Even my homies at home recommend it. :D
  • Choir Rehearsals for Christmas Midnight Mass Every Wednesday!
Well, every Wednesday until the 23rd December. We even have to sing two Simbang Gabi masses too, one on the 16th and one on the 21st. That would be on a Wednesday and a Monday. Dangit, why did it have to be work days?

November is still young. Actually we’re in the middle of the month now. Our end of the fiscal year at work is on the 20th so we have to submit all of our expense reports and payment requests before the 20th. My department will be completely caught and close the fiscal year of 2009. Just you wait and see!

Halloween & NaNoWriMo Hodgepodge

Happy Halloween, everyone! As always, I’m not dressing up for the occasion since I’m only going to be staying home giving out candies to the young ones (or the “young once” :| ). On the other hand, I thought I’d celebrate a bit in going back on an Arashi fandom hiatus for a month to concentrate on NaNoWriMo. However, hopefully I’m not going back from Arashi fandom hiatus forever because I found someone who I became writing buddies with whom I can cling on to so I don’t lose my sanity on being an Arashi fan. Please do support us, DesTi and me, as we embark on our literary abandon goal of 50,000 words.

I’ve got the tentatively official title of this year’s NaNoWriMo novel: Midsummer by the Sea. It’s technically somewhat of a rewrite of The Photojournalist and the Red Ribbon, but this would be more of a teen love story with probably a touch of mystery thrown in to it. And like the previous one, this is also somewhat tying in to my ongoing fiction project, Freedom Sky Mysteries. I put it on hiatus for now to work on AMNOSnet, but it looks like I’ve been distracted too much with other things that I could not even keep myself in focus on one thing. Dang video games and J-dramas… gah.

Yesterday on the History Channel, I saw a documentary about exorcisms. I know most of the world today don’t believe in this ancient practice of driving away evil spirits from troubled humans, but I really do believe in them. Usually exorcisms are associated with the Roman Catholic Church, however there are other Christian sects (ie. Orthodox Church, Anglican Church/Church of England, Protestant, Lutheran, etc.) who also perform exorcisms as well. I also think there’s also forms of exorcism in other religions, such as Judaism, Islam, and probably Buddhism.

I also believe in ghosts and evil spirits, but not to the point where I think that every single “bad” person or every person has committed many mistakes are possessed by the devil or anything like that. Back then every single “uncommon” behavior among people was considered the work of the devil. Today, exorcism is being practiced sparingly as behavioral sciences such as psychiatry, psychology, etc. are more commonly used among people. Also today, when someone is behaving strangely and differently from the way they usually behave, concerned family members would go to a psychiatrist first or even a doctor. If medical attention and behavioral science, even at the highest level, are unsuccessful, then this may probably be the time to go for spiritual methods, such as exorcism, as the next option.

Don’t get me wrong. I have not seen the movie The Exorcist at all because I’m terrified of horror movies in general. I have not seen The Exorcism of Emily Rose or Requiem either. And no, it’s not because of my being a Catholic that I believe in demonic possessions (in fact nothing of that sort is ever discussed or brought about in my weekly church or occasional Bible discussions either). I watched news, documentaries, read books and articles, just my daily news and reading routine. I’ve also heard stories from people I’m close to as well, experiences with other people who had to go through.

Well, since this is a hodgepodge entry, I’ll cut this short. I don’t want to scare anyone or even make the skeptics become more skeptical and call me insane. I’m not enforcing my own beliefs on those who don’t believe, as long as they don’t do the same with me.
